REYMAN E MAIL REPORT – 1 DECEMBER 2009
Paul and I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving holiday! There is much to be thankful to God for this season! This is Karen in sunny and cool Crescent City, California, updating you on the happenings in our lives and at Khayelihle Children's Village in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
NEWEST MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY
Stephen Michael Reyman, son of Lonnie and Beth Reyman, and our first grandchild, was born on October 20th at 11:54 p.m. Everyone is doing well and we are very happy that we could be here for this joyous event and will be near Stephen to watch him grow. Of course, he's the most beautiful grandbaby there ever was, but I may be biased!
JOB SEARCH
As you may know, we have been searching for jobs in the Crescent City, California, and Brookings, Oregon, area so that we can be near our son and family, and Paul's father, who is in Brookings. Paul has been succesful and has been hired by the Crescent City Housing Authority. He started work on November 17th. We are very thankful for this job which will allow us to live in Crescent City.
I have been substitute teaching, but has not had as many teaching days as I want because teachers in the area have been layed off because of the recession. I has also applied for other types of jobs, but has not been successful in getting one yet.
We are living in our fifth wheel trailer in a rv park between Crescent City and Brookings. There are beautiful redwood trees all around and we appreciate the green environment having lived eight years in Alberton without a yard! Once I find a job, we will find a bigger place to live.
RECENT NEWS FROM KHAYELIHLE CHILDREN'S VILLAGE
On Friday the 13th of November a severe storm took part of the Second Australia House and Zimbabwe houses' roofs off. Part of the chicken run roof was destroyed and they are expecting 200 chicks to arrive before Christmas. Other building's roofs were also affected.
Currently there are 14 children in preschool, 44 at primary school, 20 at high school, two at technical colleges, and one at university.
The orchard has 19 guava trees, 9 mango trees, 9 peach trees, 81 orange trees, and 8 naartjie (tangerine) trees. The garden has been doing well this year, as has the chicken project. Dairy is the core project though only five are being milked at the moment. Two hectares have been ploughed in preparation for the rainy season when maize and sorghum will be planted. A fence was put up recently between the field and the kraal so that the livestock do not enter the fields.
The construction of the ground reservoir, which will hold 150,000 litres of water, has commenced. The water from the reservoir will be used for the children, the garden, and the livestock. A third borehole has been drilled and will pump water to the reservoir.
Future projects for KCV include construction of a road, which leads to the preschool, increasing the diary herd, furnishing Zimbabwe house, as well as hiring additional staff.
Hello friends of KCV.
We are happy to be sending through our latest news.
KCV had a successful AGM on the 24th of October 2009. We praise God for a wonderful occasion. About 300 people who included our children, staff members, Board members, the New Zealand team and invited guests graced the occasion.
An adorable and energetic child, Luke Ndebele joined the family in the month of October and thus increased the number of our children to 89. There are 105 children in our Community Orphan Care Programme (COCP).
All our children at KCV and in our COCP are in good health. They will be writing their end of year examinations very soon. Please pray for them that they remember what they learnt during the course of the year. Our older child, Nyarai, will be writing her final examinations of her final year at University this month. Please do pray for her.
Sithandazile Masikati, one of our children, has been elected as the President of the Scripture Union clubs in all the Bulawayo Schools. It is wonderful news as she is given the chance of proving herself as a good leader. We are all happy for her.
The New Zealand team that is currently on a working visit at KCV, has been working very hard to complete the Zimbabwe House.
As soon as the house is completed, about 25 children will be taken in and an additional staff will be needed. Please pray that God will continue to give us strength to be able to manage the organisation.
All our other projects are doing well.
We thank you all for your continued support and for your prayers.
KCV wishes you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
God bless.
